9 May 1889Vice-Admiral Arthur Thomas Thrupp, who died on the 4th inst. at Elmfield, Bideford, aged 61, entered the Royal Navy as a cadet in 1843. He served as lieutenant of Her Majesty’s ship Cruiser in the Baltic Sea during the Crimean war, and received the Baltic medal. Admiral Thrupp was specially mentioned for his distinguished services at the capture of the Peiho Forts during the China war of 1858, and received the China medal with Taku clasp. He was aide-de-camp to Her Majesty from 1879 to 1881, and retired from the service four years ago.
