The following is the entry for Richard Henry Dalton in William O'Byrnes 1849 'Naval Biographical Dictionary'.
DALTON. (Lieutenant, 1843.) Richard Henry Dalton entered the Navy 14 Sept. 1832; passed his examination 1 Feb. 1837; served for some time in the Mediterranean as Mate of the Monarch 84, Capt. Sam. Chambers, and Queen 110, flag-ship of Sir Edw. W. C. R. Owen; obtained his commission 16 Feb. 1843; was appointed, 5 June following, to the Conway 26, Capts. Robt. Fair and Wm. Kelly, on the Cape station, whence he returned to England and was paid off in 1845; and, since 19 Dec. 1846, has been attached, as Additional Lieutenant, to the Ocean 80, Capt. David Price, guard-ship at Sheerness. |
