Extracts from the log of HMS Pantaloon for the period 28 July 1845 - 11 May 1846

Ascension - Accra - Lagos - Princes Island - Badagery [Badagari] - Popoe [Popo] - Quitta [Ouidah] - Princes Island - Lagos - Princes Island - Popoe - Quitta - Prinses Island - Ascension

A period cruising on the Bights of Benin and Biafra division on the West African station; operating from Ascension, and visiting Clarence Cove (on the island of Fernando Po, the modern Bioko Island) or West Bay (on Princes Island, the modern Príncipe, north of São Tomé) to wood and water.

Here is a complete list of officers serving during the commission of 7 September 1844 - 17 February 1848 (from the ship's muster book). William Loney replaced William Robertson as the solitary Surgeon (initially "acting") on board.

9.30 Sent an officer to overhaul the Brazilian schooner Bella Clara, having received information that she intended shipping slaves. On examining her more minutely a quantity of matting was found and several boat loads of fire wood had been received since the last visit. Several leagers in the hold were nearly empty, the aquadente having been pumped off to make room for water. And on weighing the farina, nearly 1000 lbs were found on board. Under these suspicious circumstances, the said schooner was seized
